National Initiatives
As artificial intelligence and computing power rapidly evolve, computational resources have become a cornerstone of national competitiveness. As a national research institute under the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), the National Center for High-Performance Computing (NCHC), National Institutes of Applied Research (NIAR), manages national computing infrastructure and serves as a vital engine for technological innovation. By leveraging advanced capabilities in supercomputing, cloud platforms, big data, and digital twins, NCHC supports national priorities across AI, scientific research, and smart society development—driving technological self-reliance and shaping Taiwan’s digital future.

AI Computing Data Center Construction (2025–2029)
Part of the Southern Taiwan Silicon Valley Program Initiative

Aligned with the NSTC’s vision to transform Taiwan into an "AI Island," this project builds a next-generation digital infrastructure to support the industrial ecosystem in Southern Taiwan. NCHC provides high-performance, secure computing resources and energy-efficient IDC facilities equipped with green energy and smart microgrids. By delivering high-speed computing hosts and reducing PUE energy consumption, the initiative drives digital transformation across industries while advancing net-zero sustainability goals. Next-Generation HPC & AI Evaluation Environment Construction (2024–2028)

Part of the Chip-Driven Industrial Innovation Plan
Based on the national "Smart Nation Plan," this project integrates AI, cloud computing, and IoT to advance generative AI research, foundational model development, and Traditional Chinese language models. NCHC builds heterogeneous supercomputing architectures—offering general AI (GPU), scientific (CPU), and quantum computing services—alongside AI evaluation mechanisms to align Taiwan’s AI standards with international regulations. Enhancing Public Sector Network Services & Computing Infrastructure (2021–2025)

To build a resilient digital government, this project upgrades the inter-agency network architecture connecting TWAREN, TANet, GSN, and ASNet. NCHC implements advanced transmission technologies and AI-driven network management, enhances cloud redundancy, and strengthens network connectivity with New Southbound Policy partner countries, facilitating seamless digital transformation and high-availability public services.

Submarine Cables & 5G Cloud Networking Center Construction (2021–2025)
Aiming to position Taiwan as a distributed high-speed network exchange hub in the Asia-Pacific region, NCHC upgrades its telecom data centers and constructs a new facility in Southern Taiwan. This multi-center architecture allows direct interconnection among international submarine cable, fixed-network, and cable TV operators, lowering interconnection costs while enhancing national network resilience and cybersecurity.

Taiwan Cybersecurity Excellence Deepening – Academic Research (2022–2024)
This project integrates offensive and defensive cybersecurity testbeds with cloud infrastructure to empower research teams in next-generation cybersecurity technologies (Security in Air & Security on Chip). Through academic-industry collaboration, technology transfer, and international exchanges, NCHC fosters top-tier cybersecurity talent and upgrades domestic industry tech capabilities.

Civil IoT Data Application & Promotion (2021–2025)
NCHC executes cross-domain data integration for the Civil IoT Taiwan initiative, enhancing cybersecurity infrastructure and Band 20 public network backbones. By collecting real-time environmental sensor data and generating multi-scenario simulated datasets, the platform provides essential training data for AI models to improve predictive accuracy and deliver sustainable data services.

Sustainable Health Big Data Platform (2021–2024)
NCHC built a national-level one-stop biomedical data analysis and sharing platform, providing secure query, storage, and computing services for genomic and imaging data. The platform supports academic disease prediction modeling, empowers the domestic smart healthcare and biotech industries, and facilitates data collaboration with leading international medical research institutions.

Cloud Services & Big Data Computing Platform Construction (2017–2021)
This foundational initiative established Taiwan’s AI and big data R&D infrastructure—including the TAIWANIA supercomputers—to support national AI research centers and industry adoption. By integrating computing hardware, cloud services, and big data R&D, NCHC helped cultivate local AI tech startups and accelerated the integration of Taiwanese enterprises into the global AI supply chain.
