TWAREN

TaiWan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN) provides high quality network services to Taiwan's universities and research institutes and further serves as a research platform that facilitates the development of advanced network technologies in Taiwan.

TWAREN has the most advanced 100Gbps backbone that interconnects four core nodes located in Sinica ,Taipei, Hsinchu, Taichung, and Tainan, respectively. The bandwidth between some core nodes is up to 200Gbps. The 12 Gigapops, located at major universities in Taiwan, connect to the core nodes via 100 Gbps bandwidth, and are further protected by TWAREN's double uplink design that maximizes performance and availability.

TWAREN has multifunctional IP routers at each of its main nodes and access points to the backbone network. Besides providing users with traditional IP access to the backbone, it also provides VPLS multipoint VPN, IPv6, and Multicast services. For users that will be participating in future network research, TWAREN provides network research institutes with access to its SDN testing platform via VPLS multipoint VPN, and uses its international cables to engage in collaborative research with advanced network research institutes in Japan, the United States, Canada, and the Netherlands.

TWAREN currently has a 30 Gbps international links to Los Angeles, Chicago, New York, and Singapore, and peers with other international research and education networks via these four exchange centers.
