The NARLabs hosted "
The Secret Base of Scientists" popular science exhibition at the Shilin Science and Education Center in Taipei which was reopened on January 19 after replacing some of the exhibits. In this exhibition, NCHC showcased specific applications of artificial intelligence (AI) for text recognition. NCHC has collaborated with government public security departments to develop a very powerful text recognition system, which has been developed through training AI on almost a million photos of street views. Even the text on just a few signboards, with the help of a geographic information system, can lead to their location. This capability proves to be a great help for public security departments to quickly fight crime. Visitors can also handwrite text for the system to recognize, and learn more about artificial intelligence related knowledge and how AI can help in one's everyday life.
In order to allow the public to have a deeper understanding of the scientific research work of national research institutes, and at the same time to learn interesting scientific knowledge, everyone is welcome to visit the fan-shaped exhibition hall on the southeastern side of the 8th floor of the Science and Education Museum free of charge and experience the mysterious wonders of science together.
