From HPC to AI:
The NCHC is accelerating AI innovation in Taiwan

The National Center for High-performance Computing (NCHC) has utilized high-performance computing systems and its 100G network as the foundation to build a cloud-based big data artificial intelligence (AI) platform, anticipated to be the most important computing machine in Taiwan for experimenting numerous significant AI applications. NCHC has also brought together the R&D capabilities of academia and industry to incubate innovative AI implementations, and integrated big data computing into scientific and industrial topics to provide testing and development services. Through these endeavors and many other efforts, NCHC aims at becoming the engine of emerging technologies to advance Taiwan's AI industry.

High-Resolution Pathology Slides Collaborative Platform

with AI Application

iSlide is a web-based virtual microscopy platform allowing users to view, search, annotate high-resolution histology slides and the features are below.

  • For visualizing digital pathology slides from overview to cellular details in less than a second.
  • Supports various digital pathology slides formats, and device.
  • Collaborate and share visualization and diagnostics annotation easily.
  • Standardization input/output interface for creating deep learning image analysis algorithm in pathological diagnosis.


XBrain Service Project

XBrain Service Project: NCHC provides a testbed for the brain science research society in Taiwan. In this project, we provide imaging-based Data management system and Large scale visualization solution.

Data management system: 

  • A new database software dedicated to perform imaging-based research
  • A new platform dedicated to data sharing and research cooperation

  • Ability to handle large image size from 100GB~1TB

Smart City-Visual Sensing for Wet Road

  • We proposed a cognitive visual sensor technique let the CCTV become to a visual sensor. The visual cognition system will auto detect the scene belong to the wet road by pre-trained CNN model.

  • The benefits of CNN-based wet roadway image classification would increase productivity and reduce the labor, treatment material, equipment costs, and also could improve the safety because of the reducing crash risk.

NCHC provides the cloud-based big data Artificial Intelligence (AI) platform and supports the use among researchers and engineers at hundreds of research institutes, universities and industries.

MOST Joint Research Center for AI Technology and All Vista Healthcare (AINUT)

MOST Joint Research Center for AI Technology and All Vista Healthcare, also known as the National Taiwan University AI Center, was founded on January 1, 2018 under Taiwan’s Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST). It is composed of two sub-centers, the Artificial Intelligence Technology sub-center (AIT) and the All Vista Healthcare sub-center (MAHC). Professor Hsin-Hsi Chen and Professor Li-Chen Fu from National Taiwan University’s Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering serve as the Joint Center’s director and co-director, and manage the two sub-centers, respectively.

The center coordinates cooperation across industry, government, academia, research institutes, and medical facilities to increase Taiwan’s AI research capacity, nurture high-level RD personnel, enhance the industry, promote research results to facilitate social and economic development, create a world-class platform, and strengthen Taiwan’s global influence.

Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) AI Biomedical Research Center at NCKU

The center is supported by Taiwan’s MOST with eleven multi-year biomedical AI research projects. It covers three major fields: smart medicine, smart healthcare and smart biotechnology. Long-term research collaborations of these teams have been redirected towards emerging new AI technologies with biomedical and biotechnological researches. The center strives to integrate multiple disciplines in biomedical science and AI to provide solid foundations and cutting-edge technologies for medicine and biology. Through interdisciplinary, inter-institutional, and international cooperation, the center aims at developing innovative AI solutions, cultivating top AI personnel, and promoting the research outcomes for meeting the unmet needs of biomedical industries.

The vision of Pervasive Artificial Intelligence Research Labs (PAIR) is to Integrate AI technology applications into people‘s lives, work and leisure. Establish an international field of experts by sharing what we have learned and servicing industry. The mission of PAIR Labs is commissioned to become a recognized international AI research labs specialized in the field of applied AI.

  • Talents-Participate the international AI competitions to enlarge AI talent pool and promote the international talent exchange.
  • Industrial Benefits- Assist the industry in using AI technology, improve efficiency and spawn new ventures.
