September 26, 2023, marked the 25th anniversary of technology cooperation between National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) and the National Research Council of Canada (NRC). The National Center for High-Performance Computing under National Applied Research Laboratories (hereinafter referred to as NCHC) co-sponsored the AI and 3D Technologies Seminar, bringing together Taiwanese and Canadian science and technology representatives on the forward-looking applications of artificial intelligence and 3D technologies in academic, research, and technological development

From left: Professor Cai Zhihong, general convener of the Center of Excellence for Artificial Intelligence in Taiwan, Professor Cai Miaoci, deputy director of the Foresight Division of the National Science and Technology Council, NCHC Director General Chau-Lyan Chang, and chief digital research officer of the NRC Joel Martin.
During the bilateral exchange reports, Academia Sinica Information Technology Innovation Research Center researcher Li Yujie took the lead in presenting an Overview of Taiwan's AI. Then the two countries discussed three major themes: AI for Discovery and Digital Twin, 3D Technologies (vision and printing) and AI for Indigenous Languages. They shared the latest research progress in the fields of material science, digital twins, 3D technology, and indigenous language and culture. These are not only current hot technology topics, but also reflect the direction of future technological development.

Material discovery and digital twins were a major focus of the seminar. Through HPC simulation and AI machine learning, scientists can simulate various real-world scenarios in a virtual environment. This not only profoundly impacts industries such as manufacturing and construction, but also brings about new opportunities for technological innovation.

The bilateral exchange on AI for Indigenous Languages speakers include NRC Chief Researcher Roland Kuhn, NCHC Researcher Xiao Yihao, National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University Professor Liao Yuanfu
This seminar successfully brought together the technological wisdom of Taiwan and Canada and laid a solid foundation for future technological cooperation. We look forward to more forward-looking and substantively influential cooperation projects in the two countries in the future. This can be achieved within the framework of national scientific and technological cooperation.
