The largest R&D achievements exhibition in the cross-technology field in Taiwan-“2020 Taiwan Innotech Expo”— will be grandly carried out in TWTC Hall 1 from September 24 to September 26. The topic of this year is to build three topics of “Innovation Pilot”, “Future Technology” and “Sustainability” with the main axis of “Resilient Taiwan, Smarter Future”. Special areas of science and technology are also planned, including scientific and technological epidemic prevention, disaster prevention solution, digital service, precise health, and green industrial chain. It is expected that over a thousand applications of patent and technology will be exhibited. It is also expected to promote Taiwan technologies to the world and continuously show the smart value of Taiwan in hopes of becoming a platform for R&D trades at international scale (IP hub) by combining the innovation driver and regional advantages, and docking to new southern regions, including Europe, America and Japan.

A total of 10 governmental departments, over 40 international institutions and enterprises participate in this year. With the concerted efforts of governmental departments, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Ministry of Science and Technology, Ministry of National Defense, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Health and Welfare, Ministry of Labor, Council of Agriculture, National Development Council, Environmental Protection Administration, Academia Sinica and other units participate in. As the enterprise under the Ministry of Science and Technology, National Applied Research Laboratories is also exhibited in the special venue of “Future Technology” this time.

2020 Future Technology

This time, NCHC will exhibit relevant technologies of smart city in the NARLabs special area of the “Future Technology” of Innotech Expo.

1.Smart video analysis and retrieval technology
Research Fellow Chih-hung Wu, Associate Research Fellow Chien-hao Chien, Project Assistant Researcher Chia-chien Hsieh, Project Assistant Researcher Meng-wei Lin

In order to solve the problem of public security, the NCHC has developed a smart video analysis and retrieval system, which can integrate the CCTV surveillance video at every intersection to analyze and recognize the property of vehicles/pedestrians, and apply TWCC high-performance computation for the research and development of AI image semantic analysis and video concentration technology, to effectively solve the problem of rapid retrieval of key targets (vehicles/pedestrians) in an enormous amount of videos. Meanwhile, it can provide the video clip of the motion path of the key targets to implement the rapid search application service of scientific and technological surveillance and investigation.

The technology can be applied to the following industries:
•Security: Providing the multi-camera smart security surveillance system for buildings and plants.
•Police service and traffic: Providing law enforcement officers with the application service of intersection surveillance and key figure surveillance and investigation in public places.
•Restaurant service: Providing dealers with 24h field domain video surveillance environment to improve tourist security protection.

2.Urban traffic flow control optimization platform technology
Senior Research Fellow Fang-pang Lin, Research Fellow Chih-hung Wu, Associate Research Fellow Chung-i Huang

The technology is developed based on the technologies of vehicle tracking and identification in combination with controllable traffic factors. The system has the functions of vehicle counting, vehicle classification, regional intersection traffic simulation, and lamp signal optimization. The optimization of traffic signals is promoted by the traffic flow information and in-depth learning and analysis to facilitate the unhindered travel of the public.
The technology can be applied to intersection traffic flow analysis, regional vehicle classification statistics, and traffic signal optimization. By cooperating with regional traffic authorities, it can assist to improve the traffic jam, and optimize the average waiting time and traffic speed of vehicles.
