
TaiWan Advanced Research and Education Network (TWAREN) is a project under the Taiwanese government's Challenge 2008 plan, a comprehensive six year island-wide plan of development, the purpose of which is to foster the creativity and talent that Taiwan needs to achieve success in the new world economy.
The goal of the TWAREN project is to provide fundamental support to national research institutes and to facilitate international academic cooperation. TWAREN plays a critical role in provisioning network
connections to academic research institutions. It also serves as the platform for developing networking technologies such as performance measurements, Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6), multicasting, Multiprotocol Label Switching (MPLS), Voice-over-Internet protocol (VoIP), eLearning, and multimedia. TWAREN also supports Grid-based application such as ECO Grid, Medical Grid, and eLearning Grid.
