Vice President of Bauhaus-University Weimar, Germany Visited the NCHC2011/03/18
Prof. Karl Beucke who will fill the position of the President of Bauhaus-University Weimar, Germany this April, accompanied by Prof. Shang-Hsien Hsieh, the Deputy Dean of the Office of International Affairs, NTU, and other visitors, visited the NCHC on March 16th. Prof. Beucke is the Vice President in charge of research at Bauhaus-University Weimar, Germany, the Professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, and the Founding Executive Officer of Hochtief Software GmbH. His research interests are the computer-aided design (CAD) applications in structural engineering. Prof. Beucke previously leaded the development of commercial programs for 3D architectural CAD, the Germany national projects of the informatization of civil structure and engineering design, and other related international cooperation projects of EU.
During the nearly two-hour visit, Prof. Beucke concentrated on demonstrations of NCHC’s research achievements and of virtual reality; meanwhile he asked several questions and exchanged thoughts with attendees. During the academic research discussion, attendees mainly focused on the topics of augmented reality (AR) and of the acceleration of GPU; these two issues were also the recent R&D emphases of the NCHC. In the achievement demonstrations, visitors saw the amazing acceleration effects of GPU, but the high learning threshold for beginners was the key issue that research institutes had to consider. The visit came to a close under the fervent discussion. All attendees agreed that more dialogues should be actively conducted in the future to facilitate more collaborations.
