The NCHC and Japan’s NII sign a MOU2009/08/15
The National Institute of Informatics (NII) is Japan’s primary academic research institute responsible for the promotion of R&D in HPC-related fields such as networking and software and applications development. The NCHC signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the NII in July. As the first step of this international cooperation, the NCHC’s TWAREN network linked with NII’s SINET3 network.
SINET3, established by the NII, is the largest and most advanced educational academic network in Japan with backbone speeds of up to 40 Gbps. At present, SINET3 connects with greater than 700 Japanese colleges and research institutes that zealously promote various high-tech research including high-energy physics, nuclear fusion, astronomical science, analysis on gene information, and nanotechnology. It is believed that this bilateral network interconnection will motivate greater international cooperation and application development in the future.
