NCHC's DRBL/Clonezilla Wins 2008 Science & Technology Contribution Award2009/03/18
The NCHC has won yet another Science & Technology Contribution Award. The first such award was awarded to Dr. Fang Pang Lin in 2006. In 2008, NCHC Researcher Steven Shiau, leader of the NCHC’s Open Source software development team, won the award for the DRBL/Clonezilla software his team developed. The DRBL/Clonezilla software is very useful, widely used, and has already won several other domestic and international awards. This latest award further demonstrates Taiwan's prowess in technology development. The NCHC’s Open Source software development team includes Mr. Steven Shiau, Mr. Ceasar Sun, Mr. Jazz Wang, and Mr. Thomas Tsai.
The awards ceremony was held at the Executive Yuan on March 11th, 2008. This year, 54 teams participated, from which, a panel of 30 scholars selected 5 winning teams. The winning teams used research and technology to advance social progress. The DRBL/Clonezilla software is especially useful in the educational sector where it simplifies and greatly reduces the costs of managing computers. The DRBL/Clonezilla software has been downloaded over 700,000 times worldwide! During his acceptance speech Mr. Shiau commented, "Even though DRBL/Clonezilla does not have high academic value, its application is vast. It's quite useful to people as evidenced by a current weekly download of 15,000 copies."
