International Scholars Visited NCHC
On the 9th of November, Prof. Peter Lewis, Vice President of the University of Toronto, led a Canadian delegation to visit the NCHC. The group accompanied by Deputy Director Erin Davidge of Canadian Trade Office in Taipei met the NCHC's chief managers. In addition, on November 10th, a group of Russian scholars, mostly coming from the Institute of Theoretical and Applied Mechanics (ITAM) of Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences (SB RAS) and led by SB RAS Vice President Fomin and Prof. Lebiga, visited the NCHC at the invitation of NCHC Director Kuo-Ning Chiang.
University of Toronto, founded in 1827, has over 100 years of history and has been among the top 20 of British Times Higher Education World University Rankings. Deputy Director Chi-Min Yao, represented the NCHC, received the delegation led by Prof. Lewis. The group expressed strong interests in topics regarding NCHC’s cooperation with industries, benefits of GPU acceleration, processing technologies for scientific visualization, hospital-collaboration cases of technology transfer, and methods for centralized data storage. Both parties had very enthusiastic discussions.
The SB RAS possesses a strong strength of basic science in the area of power mechanics, whereas NCHC is good at integrating it with computing capability. Prof. Fomin showed his interests in NCHC’s HPC facilities, GPU technological capacity, and microscale and macroscale molecular dynamics simulations. He asked many questions on how to use the virtual reality (VR) technology in biology and biomedical science after the VR demonstration tour. Both parties interacted on a number of disciplines and established mutual trust and consensus for future cooperation.
