Design of Optical Film with Microstructures
Diffusers and prism films (BEF) are often integrated into the optical films that are used in backlight modules. BEFs allow for improved backlight module features such as a slim form factor, high brightness, and energy saving capabilities. Using various optical theories and simulation packages, the backlight system design was used to develop multi-function optical film which could be substituted for the diffuser and BEF. Also, design factors such as the geometry and distribution patterns of micro-structures was examined to determine their influence on optical film characteristics such as haze, light intensity distribution, and transparency. The degrees of increased brightness and uniformity of luminance in the newly designed optical film were analyzed as well. Finally, several patents were applied for based on this research.
