The ability to display high-definition streaming video is extremely important to the future growth of the electronics industry and scientific research. In fact, the future of the electronics industry seems based on its ability to deliver high-definition content as evidenced by the amazing growth and popularity of high-definition video (HDV) and high-definition television (HDTV). HDTVs are currently the hottest selling piece of consumer electronics as they become cheaper in price and grow larger in size.
In the field of scientific research, there is a great need for the producing, post-processing, and visualization of high-definition content. Scientific research often requires the use of high-definition displays as well as high-definition streaming technology. The NCHC utilizes the TaiWan Research and Education Network (TWAREN) along with the latest high-definition streaming technology to create various high-definition-based applications such as underwater coral reef monitoring in Kenting, Taiwan (Fig. 1) and neighborhood street security monitoring (Fig 2).
